Our Story

In 1970, as the hippie movement was sweeping America, Bob Doyle trekked from Albany, New York to Denver to operate a handful of submarine sandwich shops.  With this experience, in 1977 he ventured to vail to open the menu.  The menu won the hearts of locals by offering affordable breakfast, subs, soups, and NY style deli sandwiches.  In 1990, twenty years after bob’s voyage west, Bob took the next step by expanding the menu to a southwestern and Mexican restaurant named the jackalope.  The jackalope, named after the fictitious rabbit with antlers, not only offered breakfast and lunch, but also offered dinner, new southwestern items like fajitas, and for the first time, the comfort of a sports bar.

In 1992, as Wayne's world was showing in theaters and Janet Jackson lead the pop charts, Bob continued to evolve his entrepreneurial vision and moved his restaurant to Avon and opened the first bob’s place.  Bob’s place offered breakfast-which after 20 years Bob had become most known for-and expanded its goals of being a small, comfortable bar by offering satellite television and a game room.  In 2000, Bob's place relocated to the current location in the lodge at Avon Center.

Bob’s place has evolved over the past 30 years to include customers’ favorite recipes from each restaurant.  A tradition that has grown with the restaurant is the celebrity Bob’s.  Look around at the famous bob’s on the wall and you’ll spot famous and infamous bob’s. Just as everyone has a friend or relative named Bob, Bob's place is a place for everyone.

AT Bob’s Place, we always give the best value and service for locals and visitors to the valley.  Come to enjoy any one of our great meals, catch your favorite team on one of our 30+ high definition televisions, or relax in our garden patio during the summer months.  The times may change, but we promise to keep the spirit and spirits true to bob as we evolve with the times.
